Day 16 - Laya Mantra - 40 Days Chanting for Healing and Transformation

Om Shanti,

Today I would like to share with you my experience with Kundalini yoga and to introduce a powerful Laya mantra, which stimulates the awakening of the Kundalini energy in the body.

A term Kundalini awakening is used often by the yogis or people on the spiritual path. It refers to the opening of the chakras, the energy centres in the body and the shift in consciousness which follows this experience. It is described as an energy rising from the bottom of the spine, all the way up to the top of the head and beyond. It is symbolized by a snake. A snake is a powerful symbol of transformation. Following his example, we are invited to shed the skin of old patterns and behaviours and leave behind the ideas which are too small, too narrow and too restrictive. For the process of transition, a snake must hide away and retreat, so the old skin can be shed and the new skin can grow on him. I see our current time similar to it. We can even see current lockdown as the time of transformation. Are we ready for it?

Laya Mantra is a mantra of mastery. It is said to bring Kundalini awakening, the opening of the chakras and a sense of bliss. It takes our consciousness from our individual consciousness to the group or global consciousness to the next level of the Universal Consciousness. Many people who practice yoga, particularly Kundalini Yoga, use it daily in the morning practice so this mantra is also called a Morning Call.

I have been introduced to the practice of Kundalini Yoga during my Shakti Dance - Yoga of Dance training. Shakti Dance is rooted in yoga, particularly inspired by Kundalini Yoga, as her founder, Sara Avtar Oliver, is a Kundalini Yoga master. I feel deeply grateful to be able to explore it, experience it and use often in my personal practice. Powerful breathing techniques, particularly Breath of Fire cleanses the body and brings lots of new energy into it. It is not the easy or gentle yoga practice, but for sure it brings a powerful transformation for those who do it on the regular basis.
